July 17th is the anniversary of the death of civil rights icon and longtime Congressmember John Lewis. He passed away on July 17, 2020, at the age of 80. Each year, this date serves as a day to commemorate his life and legacy, particularly his fight for voting rights.

John Lewis was a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement, known for his role in the Freedom Rides and as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He later served as a U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District for over three decades.
